U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Reno Flotilla 3
The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is the civilian component of the U.S.Coast Guard. The Auxiliary was founded in 1939 by an Act of Congress as the US Coast Guard Reserves and re-designated the Auxiliary in 1941. The 25,000 volunteer members (men and women) donate thousands of hours in support of Coast Guard missions.
The Coast Guard Auxiliary focuses on boater education, operational activities such as search and rescue, and recreational boating safety activities. Recretional boating activities include vessel safety exams and providing boating businesses with information related to boating safety.
The Coast Guard Auxiliary is located in all parts of the country, including Reno where Flotilla 3 is located. The Reno Flotilla does operational activities at Lake Tahoe, Pyramid Lake and Lake Almanor.
