Vessel Examinations
Get a Vessel Safety Check every year! Your decal expires at the end of the calendar year.
The Reno Coast Guard Auxiliary is pleased to offer a Vessel Safety Check for your boat. This is a free check up of your boat. The Vessel Examiner will check items essential for the safe operation of your boat. The Vessel Safety Check results are not reported to any agency. Our goal is Safe Boating for you and your family! If your boat has all of the items required, you will receive the Vessel Safety Check decal. Many insurance companies offer a discount for your boat insurance if your boat passes the Vessel Safety Check. If you are missing any items, the examiner will tell you what those are, and once completed will give you your Vessel Safety Check decal. The items checked by the examiner include:
- Proper Display of State Registration Numbers
- State Registration Information on the boat
- Personal Flotation Devices (life jackets) on the boat
- Visual Distress Signals (flares)
- Ventilation of enclosed areas where the engine is located
- Backfire Flame Control (if required )
- Sound Producing Devices
- Navigation Lights
- Pollution or Trash Placards (if required)
- Marine Sanitation Devices (if required)
- Navigation Rules
- Specific Nevada requirements
- Overall Vessel Condition
